Psychological Counselling

  • Addiction Counselling: For individuals who are struggling with addiction and for whom individual counselling may be effective.  My therapeutic orientation is informed by integral meta-theory, psychodynamic psychotherapy, philosophy of action, logotherapy, 12-Step philosophy and existential psychology.

  • Addiction Counselling for Family Members: I provide support for family members of individuals who are in active addiction or in addiction recovery. I provide education about substance use and its treatment for the whole family and support family members in reducing their unhelpful behaviors and increasing their effective behaviors. I also assist in family interventions.

  • Integrated Recovery Coaching: In my recovery coaching methodology I assist my clients in developing an Integrated Recovery Program, as outlined in my books An Integral Guide to Recovery and An Integral Foundation for Addiction Treatment.

  • Existential and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy: Existential psychotherapy is a style of therapy that places emphasis on the human condition as a whole. Existential psychotherapy uses a positive approach that applauds human capacities and aspirations while simultaneously acknowledging human limitations. My approach is informed work of existential philosophers (Nietzsche, Heidegger, Kierkegaard, & Camus) and existential psychologists (Frankl, Boss & Yalom). My psychodynamic approach and training (Institute for Advanced Psychotherapy, Loyola University Chicago) is informed by self psychology, object relations theory, Otto Rank and relational psychodynamic theory, as well the the psychodynamic model developed by Patricia Gionotti, who I trained and worked with.

I am a Registered Counsellor with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and therefore my clients have the option of being reimbursed by their medical aid schemes.

All my psychological services are offered remotely via Zoom or from my office in Muizenburg, Cape Town.
